On the beginnings of an idea
For context: I’m a software developer. Been so for a few years now. Not a lot of note in that time, really. I was a student, so not a lot of pressure to improve fast.
One could say that I got fed up with how corporations are directing their products lately. Constant surveillance, required identity-linked verifications for everything. I find it disgusting, so I started to think on how one could make a secure system without the need to verify every individual.
Recently, I also tried to manage a VPS. It’s just useful to have around. I like how chill the experience is. You just get a simple GNU/Linux, a root user and more or less do whatever you want. I started thinking about that model. I always saw web hosting options, and it’s just so much more expensive and limited, but it does take away the complexity of the whole hosting process. It’s as simple as to be able to use a simple drag and drop interface. I kind of got inspired by that contrast. I think that technical prowess should be rewarded. Not in a literal sense, but there is no need to hold the hands of every user for everything. competent users do exist, and I, as one of those (although I do debate my competency at times), do always appreciate when I have either cheaper or more potent options in exchange for having to manage things myself.
So I got to pondering on these two points. They do overlap quite a lot. And so, the idea did come to me. What if, one being a small business, one had access to a few technically skilled people. And what if, that small business wanted a service that offered the lowest costs possible in exchange for providing a strong core service with modular options and tiered levels of management. One has to imagine such a thing. Might be worth a try!
